Time Management Strategies For the Workplace

If you are like most people, you probably want to learn how to better manage your time at work. This is not as hard as you might think. All it takes is some modicum of focus and dedication to your work. You may feel overwhelmed with your work, but if you learn to manage your time at work this overwhelmed feeling will surely go away. Even if you think there is not enough time to do what you need to do to finish your projects, you might just be wasting some of the precious time you should be using for projects.

According to some studies of procrastination at work, the average worker is said to waste approximately two hours of work in an eight hour period. While you are probably saying to yourself there is no way you are wasting that much time a week, let alone during a day. Consider the online game you play or the social networking site you visit during the day. You take five minutes for the social networking site then five more for the online game. But then you visit these sites 10 times per day and you have just wasted 100 minutes, nearly two hours there. Surfing the internet, socializing in the work place and conducting personal business are the three biggest time wasters in the office work place.

Procrastination is a big problem with many people. Putting off a project that you know needs more than a day to work on it until the night before is one ingredient in a recipe for disaster. You have to be ready for problems that may arise in the project during the course of completing it. If you are given a week to complete a project and cannot complete it early, it is often a good idea to spread the work out over the entire week to make sure all of the bugs are worked out of the project. When you manage your time at work, this is easy, and you can even make it fun if the project can be considered enjoyable. You can also get more feedback about your project if you take your time to finish it. Do not discount the input of those who may have done a similar project to yours. Your project could be that much more successful just by incorporating the suggestions of coworkers or your boss. Procrastinating also consists of mis-prioritizing your projects. You may want to do Project B. Project B is not as important as Project A and thus you lose valuable time to finish Project A.

At the medium between procrastination of projects and procrastination of non work activities, you have to be wary of the traps that these social networking sites and the less important projects may hold. Simple, self task assignments will keep you on the right track in your work. They will also allow you to keep a better scope of your projects so you are aware of where you stand with your projects.

Time Management Strategies - 3 Powerful Ways to Save and Manage Time

We live life in the fast lane. We don't always have time to finish everything we started and sometimes, we don't even have the time to start anything at all. However, with the help of the right time management strategies, we can make time for everything!

You may sound pretty doubtful, but that's only because you've been stuck in no-time-for-everything land for too long.

To find out how to get out of your stump, check out these time management strategies.

Time Management Strategy # 1: Don't Put Off for Later What You Can Do Now.

Until today, this age old adage still rings true. People always complain that they have no time at all to do their work or to clean the attic; but that's not really true now, is it?

The three hours you spent watching television... You could have used that to take care of your junk in the attic. The 30 minutes you spent lazing about in bed... You could have taken that opportunity to get to work early and get a head start on the day.

The truth is, we have time. We just don't make time. Tomorrow is always there so we end up putting things off. Before we know it, everything is piled on top of each other.

Time Management Strategy # 2: Learn to Multi-task.

I'm not saying you should juggle three important accounts at a time. I'm saying you can probably multi-task some of the smaller things on your agenda.

Hungry but have to finish filing reports? Skip going out for a snack. Bring cookies to work and eat them as you finish filing away. Want to speed up the time you spend preparing for work? Maximize the time you spend in every room.

For example, after you take a bath, brush your teeth, shave and fix your hair all in the bathroom. Don't walk back and forth from your bedroom to your bathroom. You'd be surprised at how many minutes all that walking around is costing you.

Time Management Strategy # 3: Follow a Time Table.

If you're working on a big project, I suggest you create a time table. The easiest way to do this would be to print a calendar and work on it from your deadline backwards. Plot out what you need to do by this date or that date. Stick to this time table and you'll be alright.

Time management strategies are often overlooked. However, you'd be surprised at how efficient your life will become once you employ some of them in your everyday routine.

Learn Effective Time Management Strategies - Use Your Time Wisely

You might have heard this statement from many people - "I don't have time for that". Even you may have been guilty of saying that statement many times.

However, you will be glad to know that if you learn effective time management strategies and skills, you won't have to use such statements again in your life. You can either completely eliminate the use of such statements, or at least reduce them drastically.

All of us have got 24 hours in a day. Each hour has 60 minutes for each of us. However you might have noticed that some people are able to get a lot of work done in those 24 hours, while others lag behind a lot. Did you ever wonder why this is so?

If you notice super-achievers and productive people, you will find most of them are very good time managers. Even you can become one by learning and applying effective time management strategies in your life. Let us cover a few strategies and tips in this article. Are you ready?

1. Don't Delay Things Unnecessarily - Many people wait to do work till it becomes very urgent. This is a big mistake. The mistake many people make is that if they need to do some work, they will think whether that work can be done the next day or not. If the work can wait, then they are likely to delay it. People will normally keep postponing something till it becomes very urgent.

When the thing finally becomes urgent, then these people will become frantic and worried. They will hurry do get the thing done. You might be able to finally get the work done on time, but you will suffer from one problem. You will feel tired and exhausted because of all this hurrying.

You won't have the energy to do more things. So the first step in effective time management is to try to complete any work as soon as you can. There is no point in delaying work unnecessarily just because it is not urgent yet!

2. Plan It Out - One of the most effective time management strategies is to plan out your day. It would be better to plan out complete week in advance. You will know beforehand what things need to be done by the end of the day or the week.

Every Sunday, sit down quietly for 30 minutes with a pen and paper. Write down all important things that need to be done during that week. Decide what things have to be done on Monday, Tuesday etc. If you have a long list of tasks, then strike out those which are less important.

Close your eyes and imagine doing all the tasks one by one, on the specified day of the week. Now you will have a rough idea of what things need to be done this week. You can schedule and organize your time likewise.
